Barrett Adolescent School caters for secondary school students who have disengaged from mainstream education due to complex mental health needs.
Barrett re-engages students with the Australian curriculum and/or senior pathways through a trauma informed approach. Staff are skilled in supporting students with mental health complexities and work on building the social/emotional capabilities of all students. We practice inclusive education and when suitable, transition students to an educational facility that suit their individual needs.
The complex health and social needs of the students and the implications for curriculum development, are at the forefront of our planning process while re-engagement occurs. This includes partnership with and respect for stakeholders (parents and carers, clinical care providers, base schools). To this end each student has a Barrett Support Plan, developed in conjunction with all stakeholders, differentiated and adjusted to meet the individual needs of each student.

We strive to re-engage students who have become disconnected or are at risk of disengaging from mainstream education due to mental health issues. Through personalised support and understanding, we help students rediscover their passion for learning.
Curriculum access
Our aim is to support students in accessing the Australian Curriculum and Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathways in a flexible and tailored learning environment. We adapt our approach to meet the individual needs of each student, allowing them to thrive academically.
Transition support
We are committed to guiding students through successful transitions, whether it be reintegrating into mainstream education or finding alternative pathways that support their lifelong wellbeing. Our goal is to empower students to confidently navigate their educational journey.
