Student Code of Conduct

The Queensland Department of Education is committed to ensuring every state school is a nurturing and disciplined environment where all students can learn, achieve and reach their full potential. Working together with students, parents and the broader community, we strive to ensure school communities are inclusive spaces for everyone.

The Student Code of Conduct is the school's behaviour policy, with information about school rules, consequences, including suspension, exclusion and cancellation of enrolment, and processes for addressing bullying and the use of technology.

Our school's Student Code of Conduct clearly sets out behaviour expectations for our students to ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone.

The Student Code of Conduct (PDF, 590KB) is available on the school website in forms and documents.

Attendance

School Day

Barrett school days for student attendance are Monday – Thursday, 9.30am–2.00pm. Students are not expected to attend school on Friday. Students utilise this day to support wellbeing and/or further education and training.

Student Attendance

We complete a Barrett Support Plan with a case manager and key stakeholders as part of a supportive enrolment for every student. The support plan specifies attendance requirements that support the needs of the individual student, with a focus on reengagement in their educational pathway. Attendance requirements may adjust regularly to meet the needs of an individual student.

Parents are a key stakeholder in supporting their child to reengage in their educational pathway and attend school for every planned school day.

We know that many of our students have significant health issues that may impact on their ability to attend school.

Where a student is unable to attend school due to illness, a parent/carer will provide a reasonable explanation for the absence before 9:00am on the same school day, contacting the school attendance officer in the main administration.

When contacting the school attendance officer by phone or text, parent/carers are requested to provide the child’s full name, the date of absence/s and reasonable explanation of the reason for absence. When a student is absent, a parent/carer contacts the school attendance officer:

  • Phone school main administration - (07) 3373 3344 (available office hours – 8.00-3.30pm)
  • Text message school administration - 0477 741 436 (available 24hrs/7days)

Please note, the attendance mobile phone is only available for notification of school absence and is only checked on school days for this purpose.

While our case managers provide exceptional support and care for students and form close relationships with a student and their parent/carers, we ask that parent/carers contact the school administration (attendance officer) directly by phone or text message to notify of a student absence.

Where a reasonable explanation is not provided to the school, the school attendance officer will notify a parent/carer on the same school day, that their child is unexplained absent. Any time a student is not attending or participating in their educational program it is considered an absence and we must seek an explanation to further support a student.
