In 2024, Barrett Adolescent School was successful in our application for a one-off payment through the School Food Program to improve education and skills in healthy eating and cooking. These programs are fast becoming a regular feature of many schools, successfully aiding to improve student health and learning outcomes, socialisation and encourage increased attendance and performance.
During Semester 2, 2024 Barrett students engaged in weekly cooking sessions, learning that healthy eating, along with physical activity, is essential in maintaining good health and wellbeing. Students selected recipes based on healthy ingredients, learnt to follow a recipe, prepared meals and ate together as a class group.
In Semester 1, 2025 we are looking at purchasing some additional cookware for our school kitchen and continuing our education of healthy eating and cooking.
